Ferris State University Welcomes Comedian Prashanth Venkataramanujam

Comedian Prashanth Venkataramanujam will perform at Brophy/McNearny Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8:00 p.m.

Having a name like Prashanth Venkataramanujam has caused him a lot of hardships in the past, even with things as simple as website domains, Venkataramanujam says in his blog, "Not having been blessed with a good Christian name like Atticus Finch or Jesus, I started thinking of alternate website domains. PrashanthVenkataramanujam.com was, as I was told by my close friends and everyone that's ever met me, too complex and cumbersome for the common man."

However, one thing Venkataramanujam has never really struggled with was his comedy. He began his career at age 17 and quickly rose through the ranks in Chicago. "He started performing at world renowned clubs like Zanies, the Improv, Gotham Comedy Club, and The Comic Strip even before he was allowed in as a patron of age."

Venkataramanujam graduated from the highly acclaimed Stella Adler Acting Studio in New York City in 2008. He then went on to win the Rooftop College Comedy Competition and in June 2010 won the opening competition in the Great American Comedy Festival at the Johnny Carson Theater.

According to Venkataramanujam's biography, "His work on the road has afforded him the privilege of working with comedians that include the late Robert Schimmel, Mark Curry, Rocky LaPorte, Joe Piscopo, and Donnell Rawlings from the Chappelle Show."

The event is free to students. For more information on Prashanth Venkataramanujam, visit: http://www.prashanthvenkat.com/about
